» Island of Elba: Bagnaia and the beaches all around
Bagnaia is a small village situated in the bay of the same name on the Gulf of Portoferraio. The village is behind the beach, spread amidst gentle hills covered with Mediterranean maquis, an intense blanket of colours and perfumes. Beautiful views of the Medici harbour, Portoferraio, and the stupendous sunsets behind Capraia Island opposite can be enjoyed from here.
It is an ideal place for a quiet stay in an intimate and relaxed athmosphere.
At the extreme end of the Portoferraio Gulf, the Beach of Bagnaia is well protected from all winds except the ones coming from the west.
The beach is 150 meters long and in average 10 meters large and is made of sand and small, round pebbles.
With 2 small piers, Bagnaia has beach bath services, umbrella and boat rental, sailing school, bars, restaurants. The guests of our hotel and apartments get special reductions on the prices of the beach bath "Lo Scoglietto".
On the right side one finds the beaches of Zupignano and Le Secche, wild and only reachable by sea, on the left side, inside of the Portoferraio Gulf the tourist can enjoy the small and peaceful beaches of Ottonella and Ottone.
During the summer Bagnaia is connected to Portoferraio not only by the Elban bus service, but also by sea; for the summer months there is a public transport boat service (about ten minutes).
Bagnaia also has a small market, newspaper stand, drugstore and church.
Nearby, only a few minutes drive away are Portoferraio, Capoliveri and Porto Azzurro, lively towns that seduce passers by with their markets, boutiques, and opportunities for evening entertainment.
